Aker Solutions ASA (Lysaker, Norway; www.akersolutions.com) has signed an agreement for delivery of carbon capture and liquefaction units at Twence’s waste-to-energy plant in Hengelo in the Netherlands. The solution that will capture Twence’s CO2 emissions is called Just Catch, a modular carbon capture system developed by Aker Solutions. Aker Solutions’ mobile test unit (MTU), a complete, small-scale carbon capture plant, will be engaged in a nine-month test campaign at the refinery. The purpose of the test is to learn more about the carbon capture process performance on the refinery gas. Parameters such as solvent degradation rate, energy efficiency and percentage of CO2 captured, will provide important information for possible later design and implementation of a large-scale capture plant. The first, Aker Carbon Capture, draws on “more than two decades of experience and technology development through our legacy as part of the Aker group” to provide “solutions, services and technologies [that] range from capture, conditioning, transport and utilization through to storage of CO2 and enhanced oil recovery (EOR).” LYSAKER, Norway – Aker Solutions has started a pilot project for carbon capture and storage (CCS) at Preem’s refinery in Lysekil, western Sweden. The mobile test facility is part of a program that will assess the entire ‘value chain’ of CCS, from capture at the refinery, to local storage, to transport to a location offshore western Norway for storage of carbon dioxide (CO 2 ).
